Women’s Tennis Opens Tournament Season With Big West Fall Tournament

The conference will kick off the season against each other in tournament play from San Diego.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Tennis will begin their 2026-27 campaign on the road at San Diego with the Big West Fall Tournament, as the full lineup debuts against conference competition with a single main draw of singles and doubles followed by matched play.
Junior Pamela Badillo went 6-0 in singles last season at this event, winning the main draw on the way to a season where she earned Honorable Mention All-Big West honors. She is one of five returning players for Long Beach State, which also includes Cecilia Costa who has earned First Team All-Big West honors in both singles and doubles in each of her first two seasons at the Beach.
Juniors Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare have also both earned All-Big West honors in their careers, and Daria Malaescu also returns for the Beach, giving LBSU five players with over 30 singles wins in their careers back for another year.
Joining the team are three newcomers in Makaila Cheng, Elen Jantacova and Sonia Van San. Cheng and Jantacova are both juniors and Division I transfers, with Cheng having played for Navy and Jantacova joining the Beach from Northern Arizona. Sonia Van San is the lone underclassman on the roster, as the true freshman comes to the Beach from Belgium.
All eight players for the Beach will compete in the main draw in both singles and doubles.
In doubles, Cecilia Cost and Elen Jantacova received the second seed, and will open up against Leroux/Lieberman of UC Santa Barbara. Diana De Simone and Sonia Van San will face a seeded foe in MacCallum and Lynch of Cal Poly, who were seeded fourth, as will Daria Malaescu and Makaila Cheng who will play third seed Beard/Youri of UC Santa Barbara. Thea Jagare and Pamela Badillo will start the season playing together once again and will face seven seed Amy Leather and Candela Aparisi of Cal Poly.
Singles seeds were given out to 16 players, including three from the Beach. Costa was seeded fifth, and will start the draw against Isabella Pitchford of UC Irvine. De Simone was seeded 10th and will face Maria Paula Ramos Garcia of Cal State Fullerton, and Jagare will play Rachel Gee of UC Irvine as the 12 seed. Badillo will begin her run to defend her title against 11th seed Stina Larsson of Cal State Fullerton.
