No.10 Oregon State Defeats The Dirtbags 8-1

Oregon State clinches the series against Long Beach State Saturday night at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- No. 10 Oregon State Beavers capitalized on timely hitting and stranded opportunities by the Long Beach State Dirtbags Saturday night, earning an 8-1 victory to clinch the weekend series at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.

Oregon State jumped ahead in the opening inning after Easton Talt worked a leadoff walk and AJ Singer followed with a double into left center to place runners at second and third. Paul Vazquez then grounded out to shortstop, allowing Talt to cross the plate for the game's first run.

The Dirtbags threatened immediately in the bottom half despite not recording a hit. Camden Gasser drew a walk before Trotter Enright grounded out to move him into scoring position. A wild pitch advanced Gasser to third, Dylan Lina was hit by a pitch and Kaiden Smaka walked to load the bases with two outs. Oregon State starter Eric Segura escaped the jam with a strikeout to preserve the 1-0 lead.

The Beavers added another run in the third inning when Bryce Hubbard singled to left before Vazquez drove a double down the left field line, scoring Hubbard from first for a 2-0 advantage.

Oregon State extended the lead again in the fourth. Josh Proctor singled to left center and Jacob Galloway followed with a base hit to center before Tyler Inge walked to load the bases. Talt then lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Proctor to make it 3-0.

Long Beach State answered in the bottom of the fourth. Murchael Turner lined a single up the middle and Reid Montgomery followed with a double into right center, scoring Turner from first to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Beavers responded again in the fifth inning. Vazquez opened the frame with a single through the left side and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Haight. Proctor then singled back up the middle, driving in Vazquez to push the lead back to three runs at 4-1.

The Dirtbags created another scoring opportunity in the sixth after Enright drew a walk and Lina was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game. Smaka followed with a bunt single to load the bases with nobody out, but Oregon State escaped the inning unscathed following a pitching change and three consecutive outs.

Oregon State broke the game open in the seventh. Ethan Porter doubled down the right field line and Haight singled to center before Proctor worked a walk to load the bases. After two outs, Talt delivered a two-run single into right field, scoring Porter and Haight for a 6-1 lead.

The Beavers added two more insurance runs in the ninth. Inge and Talt both walked before Singer reached on an infield single to load the bases. Jacob Krieg then lined a two-run single into center field, scoring Inge and Talt to cap the scoring at 8-1.

Long Beach State finished with three hits. Montgomery drove in the team's only run with his fourth-inning double. Smaka added a bunt single, and Lina reached base twice after being hit by pitch in both the first and sixth inning.

Luke Howe struck out three over six innings in the start for Long Beach State before Tyler Gebb made a relief appearance with two strikeouts. Joey Iglesias would add a scoreless inning, and Alex Ramos would come in to close the game striking out two batters.

The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 12:05 p.m. at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field and will be streamed on ESPN+. Prior to first pitch, Long Beach State will honor 13 seniors during a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
