Beach Volleyball Claims Two Wins On Campus

Long Beach State reached the 20-win mark on the season with wins against Concordia and CSUN.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Returning to the LBSU Sand Courts, No. 10 Beach Volleyball picked up two wins, not dropping a set against Concordia in a 5-0 win before taking down conference foe CSUN, 4-1.
No. 10 Long Beach State (20-10) opened the day with a quick win over Concordia (12-16). Victoria Henkel and Mahala Esser reunited in the fourth flight in a 21-10, 21-13 win over Madi Kelly and Jordan Vander Veen, and then Tineke Hinton and Demi Wagdy staked the Beach to a 2-0 lead with a straight sets win after a close first set.
In the second wave, the Beach rolled to quick wins at the ones from Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah and Brooke Birch and Kealoha Phillips at the fives. Kiara Edwards and Savannah Standage had the closest match, but still won in straight sets after rallying in the second for a 21-16, 21-19 victory over Rosie Cline and Aliyah Moore.
The Beach got off to a quick start against CSUN (8-19) in the second match of the day. Hinton and Wagdy combined for a second straight-set win, rolling to a 21-17, 21-10 win in the second flight, while Henkel and Standage similarly won big, 21-9, 21-13.
Birch and Phillips then clinched the match with a 21-14, 21-12 win in the fifth flight over Haley Coggines and Daysha Halbert. The remaining two matches went to a third set, with Edwards and Esser defeating Hall and Rodgers 21-16, 17-21, 15-8, while Gementera and Hagenah were stunned in the top flight, falling 21-18, 11-21, 18-16 with an exciting final set.
CSUN was the winner of the neutral match against Concordia.
Long Beach State will play two more matches in the regular season, hosting No. 11 Grand Canyon and No. 13 Arizona State on Friday, April 17 at Long Beach City College. The Beach will honor their seniors at the evening matches, starting at 4 p.m. against the Sun Devils.
