Beach Volleyball Hosts Long Beach State Invitational Friday And Saturday

The Beach will welcome three teams ranked or receiving votes to LBCC this weekend over 12 total matches.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 11 Long Beach State and six other teams will compete across 12 matches as the Beach hosts the first of their two home tournament this season on March 6 and 7 from Long Beach City College.
Long Beach State split four matches last weekend at the Battle For LA. Senior Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah picked up three wins in those four matches, reaching a career milestone of 100 wins as a pair and earning Big West Pair of the Week honors for the second week of the season, their ninth weekly award of the year.
That included a win over Tanon Rosenthal and Anna Pelloia of No. 9 LMU, with the Lions coming to Long Beach as one of the teams this weekend. The rematch will come on the second day of the tournament, March 7.
The Lions open the action from LBCC against Big West opponent Cal State Bakersfield at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, March 6, with Long Beach State's first of four matches coming against UAB at 9:45. The Dragons enter the week receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll.
The Beach then has the last match Friday at 2:45 p.m., taking on No. 14 Stetson, who begin the week with a 7-1 record but will have two great matches to start the tournament against LMU and the Beach.
Long Beach State will play two later matches on Saturday. Stetson and Cal State Bakersfield start the day, with LBSU and LMU getting their rematch at 12:15 p.m. before the Beach closes the tournament at 2:45 p.m. against Santa Clara.
Admission is free all weekend, and live scoring all 12 matches of the tournament will be provided at beachlivestats.statbroadcast.com.
