Beach Returns to Action With Split Weekend in Los Angeles

After a weekend away from competition, Long Beach State returns to the track this weekend with athletes split between meets hosted by University of Southern California and University of California, Los Angeles.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach State resumes outdoor competition this weekend with athletes competing across multiple Los Angeles-area meets, highlighted by throwing events at Loker Track Stadium (USC) and distance and track and field competition at Drake Stadium (UCLA).
THIS WEEK
The Beach opens Friday, March 27, with throwers competing at the Ron and Sharlene Allice Trojan Invite. Throwing competition begins Friday at the Colich Throws Center with men's and women's discus followed by hammer throw, while additional throwing events continue Saturday at Loker Track Stadium with javelin and shot put against a field that includes Arizona State University, BYU, CSUN, USC, University of Utah and University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Distance runners will also compete Friday evening at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival and Jim Bush Legends Invitational beginning at 6 p.m. at Drake Stadium, hosted by UCLA.
Saturday shifts to the Jim Bush Legends Invitational at Drake Stadium, where the remainder of the Long Beach State roster will compete in track and field events against teams including Cal, University of Oregon, California State Santa Barbara,UCLA, UC San Diego, San Diego State, UNLV, Sacramento State, Pepperdine, and the Air Force Academy.

Afternoon distance events also include Long Beach State entries in the 1,500 meters and 4x400-meter relays, with the Beach distance group led by Miles Jones, Lance Denhalter, Cameron Rhone, Sharice Laygo, Darcy Ray and Alyssa Tapanes.
In the field events, senior Ryan Gregory and freshman Steven Evans-Glynn are scheduled for the men's long jump. For the women's long Daneira Pellum, Jenna Morales, KiiKii Brown, and Amelia Gray are expected to compete. Graduate VJ Vanderlipe is competing in the men's pole vault along with Cytres Vives.
