Beach Opens Ben Brown Invitational With Multiple Personal Bests In Fullerton

Long Beach State opened competition Thursday at the Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, Calif., posting several top finishes and personal records during the first day of field events at Cal State Fullerton.
FULLERTON, Calif. — Long Beach State opened the Ben Brown Invitational on Thursday with strong performances in the throws and pole vault as the Beach competed against a field that included Biola, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State Fullerton, College of the Canyons, Cal State Bakersfield, CSUN, Cal State San Bernardino, Hope International, Mt. SAC, Pepperdine, Riverside City, Cal State San Marcos, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UNLV and Vanguard.
Men
Sophmore Eman Goodloe delivered one of the top performances of the day in the men's hammer throw, finishing second with a mark of 62.45 meters (204 feet, 10 inches). The throw marked a significant personal best for Goodloe, improving on his previous best of 54.97 meters.
Junior Tyler Knowles also posted a personal best in the hammer throw, placing third with a mark of 61.57 meters (202 feet). His previous best had been 59.03 meters.
In the men's javelin, junior Matthew Bender finished fourth with a throw of 59.79 meters (196 feet, 2 inches). Senior Milo Orona followed in seventh at 58.39 meters (191 feet, 7 inches), while senior Cytres Vives placed 10th with a mark of 53.62 meters (175 feet, 11 inches).
Graduate VJ Vanderlipe highlighted the pole vault by winning the event with a clearance of 5.20 meters (17 feet, ¾ inch), setting a new personal best.
Women
Senior Giszelle Hrehor led the Beach in the women's hammer throw, placing third with a mark of 56.61 meters (185 feet, 8 inches).
Freshman Amanda Javellana added a fifth-place finish at 53.57 meters (175 feet, 9 inches), while junior Abigail Gavrilovic placed sixth with a throw of 52.79 meters (173 feet, 2 inches).
In the women's javelin, junior Kyra Miedecke finished second with a mark of 39.58 meters (129 feet, 10 inches).
The Ben Brown Invitational continues Friday with track events starting at 11am and additional field events continuing at 10am in Fullerton.
