LBSU moves to 2-4 on the season after road loss
LONG BEACH, Calif. --Â The Long Beach State women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to San Diego State on Sunday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center.
San Diego State secured the doubles point and carried the momentum into singles play as Long Beach State was unable to record a point before the match was clinched.
The Aztecs claimed the doubles point with wins at the top two positions. At No. 1 doubles, Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley defeated Paulina Franco Martinessi and Cecelia Costa, 6-1, while Jayna Clemens and Ninon Martinache earned a 6-2 win over Daria Malaescu and Johanna Hiesmair at No. 2. The No. 3 doubles match was left unfinished with Thea Jagare and Pamela Badillo leading 5-2.
In singles play, San Diego State clinched the match with straight-set victories on three courts. Chan earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Thea Jagare at No. 1 singles, while Gloria Alogo defeated Costa 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3. Clemens provided the clinching point at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Malaescu.
Three singles matches were still in progress when the match concluded, with Long Beach State competing closely across the remaining courts.
The Beach returns to the Rhodes Tennis Center next week as they continue their nonconference schedule, taking on Stanton and Santa Clara at home on Friday and Sunday respectively.
