Dirtbags Fall to CSU Bakersfield to Close Kleberg Bank College Classic

Long Beach State closed out the Kleberg Bank College Classic on Sunday as the Dirtbags were defeated by CSU Bakersfield, 15-2, at Whataburger Field.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Long Beach State dropped its final game of the Kleberg Bank College Classic on Sunday, falling 15-2 to CSU Bakersfield at Whataburger Field. The contest marked the final game of the weekend tournament for the Dirtbags.
CSU Bakersfield broke the game open early, scoring five runs in the second inning and adding four more in the fourth to build a 9-0 advantage. The Roadrunners continued to add on with three runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to extend the lead.
The Dirtbags broke through in the sixth inning. Jake Evans reached and later scored before Justin Roulston drove in a run after being hit by a pitch. Easton Elliot followed with an infield single to plate Matt Toomey, accounting for Long Beach State's two runs. Elliot finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Evans also recorded a multi-hit game and scored a run.
Freshman right-hander Jaxon Baker (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits over 1.1 innings. Joey Iglesias followed with two innings of relief, and the bullpen combined for 5.2 innings, highlighted by scoreless outings from Ka'imi Kahalekai and Mason Tymick.
Long Beach State totaled six hits in the game, with doubles from Evans and Murchael Turner.
The Dirtbags will return home next weekend to host BYU and Washington State for a six-game homestand beginning Tuesday, Feb. 25, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
