Women’s Water Polo Faces Pomona-Pitzer On Opening Day Of Triton Invitational

The Beach is seeded fourth in the tournament for the first time in program history.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 7 Long Beach State will head to their third tournament of the season, driving south to La Jolla for the traditional Triton Invitational hosted by UC San Diego. The Beach will play the first of four games at the Triton Invitational against Pomona-Pitzer on January 30 at Noon.
Long Beach State (5-2) faced tough competition at the Brigitte Donner Daws Memorial Tournament hosted by California, falling to No. 1 Stanford, 23-11, and No. 3 UCLA, 18-7, while defeating conference foe No. 14 UC Davis, 15-6, behind a strong second half.
Leading the Beach on the weekend was senior Lucy Miszweski, who scored seven goals and added three assists. Miszweski also had a game-high seven goals in their exhibition against the USA Academy. Freshman Polina Synytsia recorded a career-high 11 saves in the win against the Aggies and has 32 in her first season for LBSU. Elisa Portillo leads the Beach on the season with 22 goals and 12 assists.
At the Triton Invitational, the Beach will face Pomona-Pitzer (0-2) in the opening round. The Sagehens started their season at home, hosting No. 12 UC San Diego and Azusa Pacific, and losing both games by a small margin, dropping 14-13 against the Tritons and 10-9 against the Cougars. Leading the team is Paityn Richardson with six goals, while Mia Amberger adds five and a team-high three assists.
Ball drops at Noon for the matchup against Pomona-Pitzer on January 30. The Beach will play either No. 9 Loyola Marymount or No. 19 San Diego State on the following day.
