Big West season starts Friday at UCR, followed by Saturday home matchup against GCU
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State women's tennis returns to action this week with a pair of matches against regional opponents. The Beach will travel to UC Riverside on Friday to open Big West play before returning home to host Grand Canyon University on Saturday at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
Friday's road contest at UCR marks an opportunity for Long Beach State to build momentum early in the Big West season, while Saturday's home match against GCU gives the Beach a chance to compete in front of their home fans for the first time since the Beach Winter Invite.
Long Beach State enters the week coming off a split performance at the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Beach faced a tough challenge against No. 21 Texas Tech, falling 4-0, but rebounded with a gritty 4-3 victory over Wichita State. The win highlighted the team's depth, with several key matches coming down to the final points.
Individually, Thea Jagare has set the standard for Long Beach State. Jagare was named Big West Player of the Week last week after going undefeated in singles play during the Beach Winter Invite. Her strong start anchors the Beach lineup as they open conference play.
First serve against UC Riverside is set for Friday at 11 a.m. at the SRC Tennis Courts in Riverside. Saturday's home match against GCU is scheduled for noon.
