
Olympic Gold Medalist Brittney Reese Joins Long Beach State Track & Field Staff

American record holder brings elite experience and championship mindset to the Beach’s coaching staff
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach State Director of Track & Field LaTanya Sheffield announced today the hiring of Brittney Reese, one of the most decorated long jumpers in track and field history, as an assistant coach for the Beach.
Reese, a seven-time world champion and Olympic gold medalist, brings an extraordinary wealth of experience to Long Beach State. She will work primarily with the Beach's jumpers and multi event athletes, leveraging her championship pedigree and coaching expertise to elevate the program's national competitiveness.

"A decorated Olympian and multiple-time World Champion, Brittney brings a wealth of experience and a championship mindset to our Beach Family. Her passion for developing student-athletes and her approach to coaching align perfectly with our team's values and goals. We are excited for what is ahead!"
Reese is the American indoor record holder in the long jump (7.23m) and ranks among the all-time greats globally. She claimed Olympic gold in London in 2012 and added two silver medals in 2016 (Rio) and 2021 (Tokyo). Over a professional career that spanned two decades, she was a 12-time global medalist, winning Outdoor World Championships in 2015 and 2017. She won Gold in 2009, 2011, 2013, and took home three World Indoor titles (2010, 2012, 2016).
"I'm incredibly honored to join the Long Beach State family," Reese said. "I'm very appreciative to Coach Sheffield, the entire Long Beach State staff, and the administration for this opportunity. My goal is to join this remarkable staff and help continue their legacy of developing excellent student-athletes at the Beach."
Reese served as an assistant coach at San Diego Mesa College from 2015-17, where she developed several junior college All-Americans and helped guide the team to numerous conference and state-level honors. She comes to Long Beach State from Gulfport High School where she was the head coach from 2023-25.
A standout collegiate student-athlete, Reese won back-to-back NCAA Outdoor long jump titles in 2007 and 2008 while competing at the University of Mississippi.
