Jankans Wins Big West High Jump Title On Opening Day of League Meet

The LBSU men are second; Beach women are third
LONG BEACH, Calif.—Kyle Jankans' men's high jump title highlighted day one action for Long Beach State at the Big West Track and Field Championships Friday at LBSU's Jack Rose Track.
MEN
Jankans completed a 2025 conference championships sweep in the high jump. The 2025 MPSF indoor Titleist, Jankans, won his first Big West title by clearing 6-11. With the championship in his pocket, Jankans went for7-2 1/4, but he did not clear the height.
Aidan Turner was the runner-up in the long jump. He recorded a career-best 24-5 3/4 on his sixth and final attempt of the competition.
Miguel Orozco earned third in the long jump, registering a career-best 24-5 1/2.
Micah Norfles finished fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 215-1 that he recorded on his third attempt.
Jaylon Wells (58-9 1/2) placed fifth in the shot put.
TJ Funches (6-7) was seventh in the high jump.
Canaan Wharry's 187-8 on his fifth attempt earned him seventh in the hammer. Tyler Knowles' 184-6 on his first try of the meet earned him eighth in the hammer. Freshman Eman Goodloe advanced to the finals in ninth with a season-best 178-3. Goodloe improved to 180-4 on his final throw but remained in ninth.
In the running events, Tristyn Flores recorded a wind-aided career-best 10.24 (3.1) to turn in the fastest time of the 100m preliminaries. Flores returned in the 200m. His wind-aided time of 20.56 (2.1) was the second quickest of the preliminaries.
The Beach men sit in second place with 52 points. Cal Poly leads the way with 65.
WOMEN
Maren Butler turned in the top individual performance as she was the runner-up in the shot put. Her best throw was 48-6 3/4, coming on her third attempt.
Giszelle Hrehor earned All-Conference honors in the hammer throw as she finished third in the event with a toss of 188-3.
Tayah DeSousa opened the long jump by registering the ninth-longest mark in school history, 19-10 3/4. DeSousa reset her career best by over two inches on the attempt. She took fourth in the event.
Claudine Raud-Gumiel qualified for the finals in the long jump in ninth (19-5 1/4), but she did not improve upon her mark to score. She missed two of her final three jumps as she was running in the preliminaries of the 100m hurdles, where she finished sixth to advance to Saturday's finals. In her third event, Raud-Gumiel tied for fourth with three others in the high jump, clearing 5-6.
Mackenzie Hack lowered her season-best in the 3000m steeplechase to 10:44.74. Her time was the fifth-fastest in school history, resulting in a fifth-place showing.
Faitalia Ah-Fook scored in the hammer throw as she placed eighth (169-6).
Headlining the preliminary running races, Rahni Turner reset her personal best in the 100m hurdles by 6/10's of a second as she ran a wind-aided (2.1) time of 13.12 to take the top seed in the event.
Trinity Barnett ran a wind-aided 100m time of 11.41 (2.2) to earn the number one seed heading into Saturday's final. Barnett returned to take the top time in the 200m prelim, running 23.45. Her performance is the third quickest in school history.
Sofia Lavreshina turned in the fastest 400m time of the prelims by nearly a second, going 53.57. She also returned in the 200m, qualifying for the finals in ninth at 23.97.
The Beach women are third with 42.5 points. UC Irvine leads at 61.5, followed by Cal Poly with 57.
Saturday's running finals will feature the following Long Beach State entries competing.
