The sophomore extended his lead to eight strokes with a 66 Monday from La Quinta.
LA QUINTA, Calif. – Sophomore Krishnav Chopraa extended his lead with the lowest score of the field for the second straight day, a 6-under par 66 at the Big West Championship to lead the tournament at 15-under par after 36 holes.
Day Two Results
Chopraa was bogey-free for the second straight day, picking up an eagle on five and birdieing six to go under par on the hole again after his albatross on the opening day of the tournament. Picking up four strokes on par in three holes, Chopraa extended his lead over Tegan Andrews of Cal State Fullerton to eight strokes.
Junior Alejandro de Castro Piera was two-under par to climb into the Top 10, tied for ninth overall at 2-under par for the tournament. Jack Cantlay was even with a 72 and Charlie Forster rallied with a strong back nine to shoot a 73. Clay Seeber's 75 was the drop score for the Beach on Monday.
"Krishnav played incredible again today," said head coach Rob Murray. "Being bogey free through 36 holes is very impressive. We need more production from the rest of the team. It's going to be a battle tomorrow and those guys that haven't produced really need to step up."
The final day is shaping up to be a great battle between rivals in Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton. The Titans have a three-stroke lead entering the final day of the tournament, -17 overall while the Beach sits -14. Idaho, an affiliate member for Men's Golf, will join the two leaders in the final group at 3-under after 36 holes. UC Davis and UC Irvine also both start the final day of competition under par.
Long Beach State will tee off with the Vandals and Titans starting at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday morning for the final round. Live scoring for the final day's action can be found at https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/234272/scoring/team.
