
THREE-PEAT! Long Beach State Men’s Golf Champs Once Again As Chopraa Finishes Individual Gem

Krishnav Chopraa’s first career win comes at the Big West Championship, seven strokes in front at -16.
LA QUINTA, Calif. – Sophomore Krishnav Chopraa finished off a massive tournament, earning his first career victory as the individual medalist at the Big West Championship, while senior Charlie Forster responded with a huge final round to help push the team into first place for the third straight Big West Championship victory for Long Beach State Men's Golf.
Final Results
Chopraa started the day with a huge lead in the individual competition, and picked up one more stroke with a 71 to finish the tournament with a score of 200, 16-under par and seven strokes in front of the runner up, Dylan Ma of UC Santa Barbara. The win was the third individual win of the season for the team, and the first of the young career of the sophomore.
Senior Charlie Forster had a huge day to help push Long Beach State in front of Cal State Fullerton in the team competition. The senior made up 26 spots on the leaderboard with a 9-under 63, going birdie, eagle, eagle through four, five and six to set the tone for the day. With just one bogey in the final round, Forster finished in fourth place overall at 6-under for the tournament.
Trailing Cal State Fullerton by two strokes entering the final round, the Beach pulled in front with a strong final day, and ultimately won the tournament by five strokes over the Titans. Alejandro de Castro Piera came in with a final round 72, finishing two-under for the tournament, while Jack Cantlay's birdie on 18 helped the junior finish the day with a 74. Clay Seeber finished the tournament with a 75.
Long Beach State joins rare company with a third straight championship, the first school to do so since 2003, over 20 years since a three-peat. The team's score of 842 was a new low for the Big West Championship, breaking a record set in 1994 by UNLV. Chopraa's 200 also tied for a tournament record with another Long Beach State golfer, Ryan Panichpakdee in 2006.
Long Beach State is guaranteed a spot in the NCAA Regionals as the Big West champions, and will find out their tournament destination when the field is announced at 10 a.m. PT Wednesday morning on the Golf Channel.
