Beach Volleyball Seeded Second In Big West Conference Tournament

Long Beach State was edged for the top seed by Cal Poly.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 10 Beach Volleyball has earned the second seed in the upcoming Big West Championship with a record of 23-11, having beaten all conference opponents once this season. 

Long Beach State is looking to head back to the Big West championship match after a heartbreaking 3-2 loss last season. The Beach returned the majority of the roster this year and has seen success that started with a 3-2 win over then No. 9 Cal. The Beach grabbed another big win recently as they upset No. 6 Cal Poly in a 3-2 victory. The third flight of Natalie Glenn and Skyler Germann played three close sets to best the Mustangs and win the dual.   

The top flight for Long Beach State has seen an immense amount of success and are on a ten-win streak going into the conference tournament. Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah have been named Big West Pair of the Week five times this season, including grabbing the last honor for the regular season. They were also named the AVCA/BVCA National Pair of the Week the week after going 6-0 at the Big West Challenge.  

The Beach will face (7) Sacramento State at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 24 to start pool play, with another match against either (3) Hawai'i or (6) Cal State Bakersfield to set up the bracket for single elimination competition to close the tournament on Friday, April 25.
