Armando Briseno has two hits to lead LBSU
LONG BEACH, Calif.—Cal Poly defeated Long Beach State 9-1 in the middle game of their Big West baseball series Saturday night at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
Alejandro Garza drove in Dante Vachini with one out in the top of the first to give the Mustangs the lead. A trio of two-out hits in the bottom of the first was capped off by a Luke Taylor RBI infield single, resulting in a 1-1 tie.
The Mustangs put runners on the corners with two outs in the top of the second. Dante Vachini hit a shot into the right-center gap, and Kyle Ashworth nearly came up with a diving backhand catch. The ball fell to the ground as both runners scored.

Collins doubled for the third time with two outs in the top of the seventh to plate Garza for the sixth Cal Poly run. The Mustangs added three runs in the top of the eighth.
Collins was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Cal Poly. Vachini and Garza both added two hits. Briseno posted two of the six Long Beach State hits. Mustang starter Josh Vomerding picked up the win, striking out six over the first six innings. Chris Downs pitched the final three innings for the save. Geiss took the loss for the Dirtbags.
