Women’s Water Polo Extends Winning Streak With A 25-7 Win Over Bucknell

Spaniards Elisa Portillo and Martina Cardona combined for 11 goals to lead the offense.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No.6 Long Beach State won their fifth straight game as they defeated Bucknell, 25-7 at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center on Tuesday night. Elisa Portillo and Martina Cardona added six and five goals respectively to lead the Beach offense.
Long Beach State (11-8, 2-0 Big West) got off to a great start with a 5-0 run to open the first quarter. Cardona scored her first two goals and Portillo, Jamie Oberman and Rita Gurri Capel added one each before Bucknell (9-5, 2-3 CWPA) scored two in a row to cut the gap. LBSU scored four unanswered goals to close the quarter in the lead 9-2.
Sophomore Chiara Amoroso scored back-to-back goals to extend the lead in the second quarter as the Bison scored on a penalty shot with 3:04 left as the Beach led 11-3. Martina Cardona added two goals in a row and Elisa Portillo added a late goal to close the first half with Long Beach State leading 14-3.
The Beach kept the momentum going in the second half with Amoroso and Portillo adding back-to-back goals. The Bison added two more before freshman Brooklyn Plomp scored two in a row to extend the lead 19-5 with 2:53 left. Daniela Quinzada Gonzalez and Ashlee Dobell added two more for the Beach to close the third quarter, 21-5.
Portillo went end to end to score a no-look counter attack goal for her sixth of the day. Both teams traded goals to finish the game with another Beach win 25-7.
The Beach heads to Hawai'i for their third conference match. First sprint is scheduled for 9 p.m. PT with live stats provided through thefosh.net.
