Haddad, Nally Combine For No-Hitter In Walkoff Win Over Fresno State

2/8/2025 1:41:00 PM | Softball

The senior/freshman duo finished off the second combined no-hitter in school history.

STANFORD, Calif. -- Rebekah Durazo's two-run single capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh in support of the Long Beach State pitching staff, who recorded the second combined no-hitter and 34th in program history in a 3-2 win over Fresno State.

Long Beach State (3-0) finished with 10 hits to the zero for the Bulldogs, but were unable to push in front in the first six innings as the excitement was left for the seventh inning. Freshman Brynne Nally closed out the no-no with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh, setting the stage for a huge moment for the Beach.

LBSU had threatened throughout, with a runner on in five of the six innings, but finally broke through in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch hitter Savannah Magadan got the action started by getting hit by a pitch, and then Maddy Martin singled to put two on with no outs. Jacquelyn Bickar flew out to center for the first out, but Carly Robbins followed with a single and the play at the plate was mishandled as Magadan came in to score and Martin and Robbins moved to second and third with one out.

Makayla Medellin was immediately intentionally walked, loading the bases for senior Rebekah Durazo, who delivered in a big way, a two-run single to grab the win in support of the combined accomplishment from the defense and pitching.

Fresno State (1-1) scored their first run in the third inning. Three walks loaded the bases in the inning, and Haddad struck out Natalie Elias to get a second out, but one more walk before the senior's fifth strikeout of the contest put the Bulldogs in front 1-0.

The Bulldogs scratched another run across in the fourth. Haddad, who finished with five strikeouts gave up a leadoff walk, and freshman Brynne Nally entered for the Beach. Trying to get the lead runner on a grounder didn't pay off for LBSU, however, as the Bulldogs had two on with no outs and Fresno State capitalized, using two bunts to push across a second run before Nally closed the inning with a strikeout.

Nally would only allow one base-runner trough the final three innings, collecting her second win of her debut weekend. It was the first no-hitter at LBSU for both Haddad and Nally.

Leaving the Stanford Invitational unbeaten, Long Beach State will get a fresh test in their home opener Sunday morning, taking on No. 2 Oklahoma at 11 a.m. from the LBSU Softball Complex. Live coverage of the game will be provided by ESPN+.
