
Women’s Golf Starts Spring With Win Over San Diego State

Jasmine Leovao was the individual champion of Monday’s dual match with the Aztecs.
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Starting off the spring schedule with a dual match, Long Beach State finished three strokes ahead of San Diego State from The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., opening the season with a win.
Junior Jasmine Leovao was the individual champion on the day, shooting even par for a 72 as the low score of the day. Janae Leovao was one stroke behind with a one-over 73, as the twin sisters topped the leaderboard on Monday.
Those two rounds would prove to be the difference in a tight team matchup, as Long Beach State finished the day with a 302, three strokes in front of San Diego State with a 305. A trio of Aztecs, Kylie Phi, Stephanie Barbaglia and Emma Narita, placed in a tie for third with three rounds of 74 to keep things close between the teams.
Long Beach State had the two next low scores to take the win, as sophomore Erin Lee posted a 78 and junior Madison Le ended the day with a 79. Nicole Kato was the final counting player for San Diego State with an 83, tied with Long Beach State's Hannah Jugar who recorded the team drop score for the Beach.
Andee Avery finished in 11th place, while Kristina Ponomareva was in a tie for 12th overall. Isabelle Olivas-Lowell placed 15th in her Division I debut after transferring from Citrus College this spring.
Long Beach State will host their annual tournament, the Alice and John Wallace Classic from Monterey Country Club in their next action. The three-day tournament will begin on February 15 from Rancho Mirage, Calif.
