Long Beach State will host their annual tournament for the 12th time.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Women's Golf is excited to host the Alice and John Wallace Women's Golf Classic, introducing a new name and course to Long Beach State's annual home tournament.
Hosted this year at Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif., Long Beach State is excited to be able to expand the format to three days, allowing more teams to participate in a field that includes many of the best teams in the West.
The field boasts two teams in the Top 5 in the latest rankings, six in the Top 50 including Long Beach State, and 11 in the Top 100 among the 21 teams battling over three days from February 15-17.
No. 3 USC and No. 5 Oregon will be the pre-tournament favorites, and five other Big West programs are competing in Hawai'i, UC Davis, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Bakersfield and Cal Poly. Other teams in the field include Boise State, California Baptist, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Gonzaga, Nevada, New Mexico State, Pepperdine, Portland State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Washington and Wyoming.
Long Beach State will be sending their whole team once more, following their order of finish from their dual match with San Diego State to open the spring season. Junior Jasmine Leovao was the individual champion of that dual with an even par 72, and will lead the Beach lineup into the Alice and John Wallace Classic. The two-time defending Big West Individual Medalist leads the Beach with a stroke average of 71.0 so far this season.
Junior Janae Leovao will play second for LBSU. She his second on the team with a72.2 stroke average this season, and opened the spring with a 73 at The Farms Golf Club in the San Diego State dual to finish second overall, as the twin sisters helped guide LBSU to a team win in that event.
Playing third is sophomore Erin Lee, whose consistent improvement has seen her compete in the lineup in four of five competitions for LBSU this year. Junior Madison Le has 10 career Top 10 finishes, and will play fourth for the Beach, with graduate transfer Hannah Jugar rounding out the lineup for the Beach.
Playing as individuals for LBSU will be sophomore Andee Avery, senior Kristina Ponomareva and newcomer Isabelle Olivas-Lowell, who joined the program this spring as a junior college transfer from Citrus College.
Action will begin at 9:30 a.m. each day with a shotgun start. Live scoring throughout the tournament will be provided by SCOREBOARD at https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/233212.
