Women’s Tennis Keeps Win Streak Going With 4-1 Win At Navy

Long Beach State fought for a doubles point win and went on to grab the road win.
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Long Beach State won the doubles point for the fourth match in a row with a gritty win, and rode that momentum to a 4-1 win on the road at Navy for the fifth straight win for the Beach. Cecilia Costa and Thea Jagare each had a pair of wins as Costa sealed the win for LBSU for the second straight match.
Cecilia Costa and Johanna Hiesmair continued to be very strong in the top flight of doubles for Long Beach State (6-2), cruising to a 6-1 win over Kate and Julia Lee to earn the first win of the day for the Beach. Navy (7-8) recovered with a 6-2 win in the third flight of doubles, leaving the point up for grabs between the twos.
That match was very tight, but Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare fought off a match point down 5-6, winning that game and then taking the tiebreaker 7-5 to give the Beach an early lead with the doubles point.
Daria Malaescu got the Beach started in singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kate Lee in the fourth flight, making the score 2-1. Manci Pal picked up a point for Navy with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Johanna Hiesmair, making the score 2-1.
Jagare after a 7-5 win over Sylvia Eklund in her first set at the threes rolled to a 6-0 win in the second, setting the stage for Costa to also grab her second win of the day, a 6-2, 7-5 win over Molly Bellia to give Long Beach State the 4-1 victory on the road.
Long Beach State closes their East Coast swing with one final match on Saturday, facing George Washington starting at 8 a.m. PT as the Beach looks to win their sixth straight match.
