LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State's Natalie Glenn and Eddy Marin are the February recipients of the CalHOPE Courage Award.Â
The award honors student-athletes at California colleges and universities who have overcome the stress, anxiety, and mental trauma associated with personal hardships and adversity. It is presented by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) in association with The Associated Press. CalHOPE is a crisis counseling and support resource for communities impacted by public health emergencies, operated by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Mental Well-Being.Â
Glenn, a senior on LBSU's beach volleyball team, was selected as the February winner after overcoming personal adversity. In her life, she has gone through the personal tragedy of her father passing because of a car accident and having to battle the depression that came with it. Â
The Texas native has overcome all her adversities and not only earned a scholarship for her accomplishments in indoor volleyball, but has etched her name into the Long Beach State record books adding to her numerous awards on the sand. She is a two-time AVCA Top Flight Award winner and was named to the All-Big West Second Team in 2024 with an Honorable Mention in 2023. She also ranks eighth all-time for individual wins in a single season and 14th in career wins (54) for the Beach.Â
"CalHOPE is honored to recognize student-athletes throughout the state who, despite setbacks, have overcome life's challenges to continue to perform their best as both scholars and athletes. CalHOPE's purpose is to build community resiliency and help people recover through free outreach, crisis counseling, and support services. We hope that by sharing these stories that student-athletes have experienced, we will all be inspired," said Dr. Jim Kooler a special consultant of DHCS. Â
