Round One Scores
Cantlay had a strong close to the opening day, recording three birdies without a bogey in his final nine holes to finish with a 2-under par 68, the low score of the day for Long Beach State and the first round in the 60s this season for the junior.
Alejandro de Castro Piera also had a solid day, finishing with an even par 70 to finish second for the Beach. Also carding a 70 was sophomore Krishnav Chopraa, who playing as an individual also ended up even par.
Senior Charlie Forster was 3-over par on Thursday in the first round with a 73 but bounced back on the back nine with a 34. Clay Seeber finished 5-over par as the fourth finisher for the Beach, while sophomore Tiger Tahvildari was the team's drop score for the opening round.
"Really tough wind conditions today, and the boys battled hard," said head coach Rob Murray. "It's easy to shoot yourself out of the tournament on days like today. 36 holes to go and we still have it all to play for."
As a team, Long Beach State is right in the thick of the action. The Beach is part of a three-way tie that includes Texas A&M and Missouri, and are part of a group of eight teams within six strokes of second place after the first day. No. 16 Utah are in the lead, 7-under overall after the first day.
Round two is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. PT from the Ocean Course Hokuala. Live scoring through SCOREBOARD can be found at https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/233548/scoring/team.
