Beach Sends Four To Saturday In Main Draw Doubles At ITA Southwest Regionals

Pamela Badillo and Johanna Hiesmair won a thriller to advance on Friday.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Doubles play got underway on the second day of the ITA Southwest Regionals, and Long Beach State had four individual players move on to Saturday's main draw competition in doubles.
Pamela Badillo and Johanna Hiesmair were able to outlast Lidia Gonzalez and Sofia Perovani in a fantastic match, winning a tiebreaker for an 8-7 (3) win in the Round of 64. Paulina Franco and Cecilia Costa received a bye into the Round of 32, where they will face Jayna Clemens and Ninon Martinache of San Diego State on Saturday.
Nicole West and Angela Ho from CSUN defeated Daria Malaescu and Daisy Carpenter, while Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare lost to Sophie Rachor and Grete Gull of Hawai'i.
In main draw singles, Cecilia Costa won her opening match, cruising past Anna Linn Moll 6-3, 7-6 (2), but lost to top-seeded Kate Fakih of UCLA in the Round of 32, 6-2, 6-4. Thea Jagare, who played her way into the main draw with two wins Thursday, also fell against a top seed, (2) Anastasiia Grechkina of Pepperdine, 6-1, 6-4. Diana De Simone also lost in the Round of 64 to Jayna Clemens of San Diego State.
Long Beach State also had a solid day in arranged matches, as Daria Malaescu, Paulina Franco, and Daisy Carpenter all won in straight sets against Big West competition, while Johanna Hiesmair closed the day with a 6-7 (3), 7-5, 10-3 win over Makeilah Nepomuceno of Hawai'i.
Main draw doubles play, along with additional singles matches, is scheduled to continue Saturday from San Diego.
