Long Beach State reached the Round of 32 in both the singles and doubles main draw.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Long Beach State had their doubles run come to a close on Saturday, as both advancing teams were knocked out of the main draw at the ITA Southwest Regionals in San Diego.
Saturday started with doubles action, as the Beach had two tandems remaining in the main draw of competition. Paulina Franco and Cecilia Costa were bested 8-6 by Jayna Clemens and Ninon Martinache of San Diego State, while Dani Borruel and Lily Fairclough of USC held off Pamela Badillo and Johanna Hiesmair 8-6.
In extra competition, Daria Malaescu and Daisy Carpenter defeated Cal Poly's Jessica MacCallum and Natalie Lynch 6-4, while Diana De Simone and Thea Jagare suffered a loss against Imogen Haddad and Eugenia Zozaya of USC.
All eight players also played a round of additional singles matches on Sunday as well. Thea Jagare was a straight-sets winner over Haily Huynh of UC Irvine, 7-5, 7-5, while Daria Malaescu had an impressive win over UC Riverside's Kei Kato, 6-3, 6-1. Cecilia Costa was also a third-set tiebreak winner over Grete Gull from Hawai'i.
Long Beach State will play in one more fall tournament, traveling to Northridge to take part in the CSUN Fall Tournament November 7-9.
