Long Beach State faces the Tritons Thursday on ESPN+ and the Rainbow Wahine Friday in a nationally televised ESPNU clash.

FIRST SERVE
Long Beach State returns home this week for a pair of Big West matches.
 
The Beach hosts UC San Diego on Thursday night. ESPN+ coverage begins at 7 p.m. with Matt Brown and Sarah Pavan on the call.
 
Friday night's match against Hawai'i will be nationally televised on ESPNU beginning at 6 p.m. Anne Marie Anderson will handle play-by-play duties, while Nicole Branagh provides color commentary. The match will also stream live on the ESPN app.

SCOUTING THE TRITONS
UC San Diego enters the week 4-14 overall and 2-4 in Big West play after dropping a pair of 3-2 matches to UC Davis and UC Riverside last week.
  • Molly McClusky ranks second in the Big West with 245 kills (3.45/set), 65th nationally. She's also seventh in aces per set (0.30) and tied for third in total aces (21).
  • Mika Rome is third in the Big West in assists per set (8.76), totaling 368 on the season.
Series: LBSU leads the all-time series, 10-0.

SCOUTING THE RAINBOW WAHINE
Hawai'i begins the week with a 6-11 overall record and 2-4 mark in the Big West. The Rainbow Wahine dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions to Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara last week at home.
  • Cha'lei Reid leads the Big West and ranks 21st nationally in service aces per set (0.51). Her 30 aces top the conference.
  • Reid also stands seventh in the league in kills per set (3.29) and ninth in total kills (194).
  • Millana Sylvester ranks eighth in blocks (1.03/set) and ninth in hitting percentage (.284).
Series: Hawai'i leads the all-time series, 44-19-1.

KING NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK FOR THE FOURTH TIME
For the fourth time this season—and the second consecutive week—Logan King was been named Big West Freshman Volleyball Player of the Week on October 13.
The 6-foot-2 opposite averaged 4.14 points, 3.29 kills, 3.29 digs, and 1.14 blocks per set in a 1-1 week for the Beach.
  • In a sweep of UC Riverside, King posted 11 kills, eight digs, and five blocks.
  • At UC Davis, she recorded her sixth double-double of the year with 12 kills and a season-best 15 digs, adding three blocks and a service ace as the Aggies snapped LBSU's nine-match winning streak with a 3-1 victory.
King becomes just the eighth player since the Big West began presenting Freshman of the Week honors in 2014 to earn the award at least four times in a single season. Cal Poly's Adlee Van Winden set the league record with seven selections in 2015.
 
King previously earned Big West Offensive Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors (Oct. 4) after averaging 4.88 points, 4.38 kills, and 2.25 digs per set in wins over UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
She notched her fifth double-double of the season (14 kills, 10 digs) vs. UCSB and a season-best 21 kills vs. Cal Poly, adding eight digs, four blocks, and four assists.
 
King also earned Freshman of the Week honors on Sept. 8, becoming the first LBSU player to win the award in back-to-back weeks since its inception in 2014.

King is powering the Long Beach State offense to 13.84 kills per set, ranking 24th nationally this week.
International: King was one of 12 players selected to the Volleyball Canada U21 National Team, competing at the NORCECA Pan Am Cup (July 20–28, Costa Rica) and the FIVB U21 World Championship (Aug. 7–17, Indonesia). She was named Best Opposite at the Pan Am Cup after helping Canada reach the bronze medal match and ranked 20th overall at Worlds with 105 points (88 kills).

WE WENT STREAKING
LBSU's nine-match winning streak—snapped Oct. 11 at UC Davis—was its longest since 2014, when the Beach won 17 straight en route to a Big West title and NCAA berth.

MAXWELL NAMED SETTER OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK
Sophomore setter Madi Maxwell earned Big West Setter of the Week honors for the second consecutive week (Sept. 29).Maxwell led the Beach to a 2-0 conference start with 67 assists (11.17/set), adding five blocks, three aces, and two kills.
At the UniWyo Invite, she averaged 11.46 assists per set with two double-doubles, including a career-high 57 assists vs. Idaho State.
The 6-2 sophomore leads the Big West with 611 assists (9.70/set), ranking 43rd nationally in total assists and 52nd in assists per set. She also leads the team in digs (164), 11th in the Big West.

AGI NAMED OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior outside hitter Elise Agi earned Big West Offensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Beach to a 3-0 record at the UniWyo Invite.
Agi hit .326 while averaging 3.46 kills, 3.00 digs, and 3.88 points per set. She posted two double-doubles, including a career-high 16 digs vs. Wyoming and 24 kills vs. Idaho State.
She leads the team in service aces (16) and ranks second in kills (181) and digs (149). Agi also earned All-Tournament honors at Santa Clara's Mission Classic.
Agi was invited to participate in the USA Volleyball Women's National Team Open Program (Feb. 21–23, 2025, Colorado Springs) but did not participate due to injury.

DROPPING THE HAMAKER
Freshman outside hitter Sidney Hamaker recorded double-digit kills in five straight matches (Sept. 19–Oct. 3), capped by a season-high 14 vs. UC Santa Barbara.
She has seven double-digit kill performances in 17 matches and ranks third on the team with 140 kills (2.64/set).

BLOCK PARTY AT THE PYRAMID
  • Nieko Thomas leads LBSU and the Big West in total blocks (72), ranking 92nd nationally. She's fourth in the Big West in blocks per set (1.14).
  • Rhiann Sheffie ranks fourth in total blocks (66) and fifth in blocks per set (1.05).
As a team, the Beach leads the Big West in blocks per set (2.56) and ranks 32nd nationally. LBSU is also second in the conference and 48th nationally in total blocks (161.5).

DOUBLE LIBERO
LBSU utilizes a two-libero rotation featuring Anna Jelinek and Izzy Mahaffey.
  • Jelinek ranks fourth on the team in digs (122), with five double-digit efforts, including a season-high 13 vs. San Diego State (Sept. 13).
  • Mahaffey ranks fifth in digs (92) and fourth in service aces (8), recording double-digit digs three times, including 15 at Wyoming (Sept. 18) and again vs. Idaho State (Sept. 20).

HITTING 70
Long Beach State recorded back-to-back 70+ kill matches for the first time in nearly three years—72 at Wyoming (Sept. 18) and 75 vs. Idaho State (Sept. 20).
The last time LBSU achieved the feat was Oct. 14, 2022.

THE FAMILY BUSINESS
Junior Tatum Hoff is the daughter of Long Beach State alum and U.S. Olympic gold medalist Tom Hoff, who starred for the Beach before a decorated international career.
A three-time Olympian (2000, 2004, 2008), Tom Hoff helped Team USA capture gold in Beijing (2008).
Tatum has carved out a regular role in the rotation, contributing five service aces this season.

THE LONG BEACH TRADITION
With a 12-5 record this season, Long Beach State owns an all-time record of 1,330-521-6.
The Beach's 1,330 victories rank ninth in NCAA Division I history, while the program's .719 winning percentage ranks 12th nationally.

BIG WEST PRESEASON POLL
Long Beach State was picked fifth in the 2025 Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll, released Aug. 21. The Beach earned 68 points, while Hawai'i (94) edged Cal Poly (92) for the top spot.
UC Davis (75) and UCSB (73) rounded out the top four.

A LOOK BACK
Last week, Long Beach State extended its winning streak to nine with a sweep of UC Riverside last Friday before UC Davis snapped the streak on Saturday 3-1:
