2 More School Records Are Broken Or Tied On Day 2 For The Beach In Nevada

Wells wins men's shot put on final attempt; Lavreshina wins 400m

RENO, Nev.—Two more indoor track and field school records were broken or tied by Long Beach State entries on the final day of the Nevada Invitational at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
 
MEN
Moray Steward ran 6.79 in the preliminaries of the Silver 60m to advance to the finals with the sixth-fastest time. His altitude-adjusted mark of 6.81 is the third-quickest in school history.
 
In the finals, Steward ran faster, tying Brent Gray's 2009 school record in the event by posting an altitude-adjusted time of 6.75. He finished fourth in the event.
 
On his final attempt, Jaylon Wells returned with the shot put title. Wells recorded a toss of 55-11 to surpass CSUN's Elijah Igancio by nearly four inches. Wells' throw is the seventh longest in school history and is a new career-best.
 
Mikey Holland advanced to the finals of the Blue 60m by running 7.03 (7.05aa). He came in third in the finals, recording a faster time of 6.99aa.
 
Aidan Turner's 8.25 (8.27aa) was the third fastest time of the Silver 60m hurdles preliminaries. Ryan Gregory also qualified for the finals in the event as he ran 8.34 (8.34aa) in the prelims. Turner ran 8.27 (altitude adjusted) in the finals to finish fourth. Gregory's 8.37 (altitude adjusted) earned him a final placing of fifth.
 
Quinten Flowers finished fourth in the triple jump with the 10th longest performance in school history, 49-0 3/4). TJ Funches was seventh (44-7) in the event.
 
The 4x400m relay of Vincent Jones, Omri Shiff, Holland, and Adren Parker charted the fourth fastest time in school history, 3:12.98, to finish second.
 
WOMEN
During the preliminaries, Trinity Barnett reset the school record in the Silver 60m dash. Her altitude-adjusted time of 7.32 broke the previous mark of 7.37 that was set by Courtne' Davis in 2019. The time was the second quickest of the prelims. In the finals, Barnett's 7.36aa resulted in a third-place finish.
 
Sofia Lavreshina won the A sections of the 400m with an altitude-adjusted time of 54.40.
 
The Beach sent four entries to the Silver 60m Hurdles finals. Hailey Fune' posted the top time of the preliminaries as she ran 8.45 (8.47aa). Rahni Turner had the second fastest time, 8.47 (8.49aa). Claudine Raud-Gumiel's 8.54 (8.56aa) was fourth quickest, while Tayah DeSousa was seventh at 8.64 (8.66aa).
 
In the finals, Raud-Gumiel was the top LBSU finisher, as she earned the runner-up slot, running 8.50 (altitude adjusted). Raud-Gumiel's altitude-adjusted time is the fifth fastest in school history. Fune (8.51aa) was third. Turner (8.57aa) finished fourth, while DeSousa was eighth (8.76aa).  
 
Maren Butler finished seventh in the shot put with the sixth-longest toss in school history, 45-10.
 
The 4x400m relay of Daryana Hall, Lavreshina, Barnett, and Turner ran the third-fastest time in program history, 3:46.70aa, to place fourth.

Long Beach State travels to the University of New Mexico Collegiate Classic Feb. 7-8.
