Long Beach State Drops 3-0 Decision To No. 16 Texas

The Beach held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks
AUSTIN, Texas—No. 16 Texas defeated Long Beach State 3-0 in women's soccer play Sunday night at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field.
After an opening 10 minutes played mainly in the middle of the field, the Longhorns took the lead in the 11th minute. Amalia Villarreal found Ashlyn Miller on a give-and-go, which she converted to the LBSU goal's bottom center.
Texas extended the lead in the 19th minute when Villarreal's cross found Lexi Missimo in front of the Long Beach State net, where she scored from three yards out. The Beach mounted a charge on ensuing possession where the Texas defense blocked Liz Worden's attempt out of bounds. LBSU was awarded a corner kick, which the Longhorns successfully defended.
Long Beach State earned a second corner kick in the 22nd minute. Texas kicked away Worden's line drive into the box. The Longhorns made it 3-0 in the 26th. LBSU was whistled for a foul just outside the goalkeeper's box. Jilly Shimkin's free kick went into the top right of the LBSU goal for the tally.
LBSU was aggressive on the ensuing kickoff, resulting in a Worden attempt blocked by the UT defense. The Beach regained possession, working the ball to Kassandra Ceja, who had her shot saved by Mia Justus in the 29th minute.
Long Beach State made a steal to begin the second half, resulting in a Ceja blast that Justus saved. Worden's attempt in the 53rd was blocked. Late in the second half, LBSU posted back-to-back corner kicks, which resulted in a Grace Caldwell shot that went high.
The Beach held the Longhorns (6-0-1) off the scoreboard in the second half, keeping the score 3-0. Long Beach State had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Texas outshot LBSU 17-9, 5-2 on goal. Justus made three saves. LBSU goalie Aurora Schuck recorded two saves for the Beach.
The Beach played their fourth nationally ranked opponent in seven non-conference matches (2-4-1) in 2024. Long Beach State resumes action on Sept. 20 when LBSU concludes the non-league slate against Cornell (1-1-3). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
