Hurley & Fune' Post Top 3 Finishes In Big West Heptathlon

Orona & Fair go 5-6 in the Big West Decathlon

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.—
Hailey Fune' and Jenelle Hurley finished second and third in the heptathlon, while Milo Orona and Justice Fair posted top-six finishes in the decathlon. The Big West Multis closed on Saturday at Cal Poly's Miller & Capriotti Athletics Complex.

HEPTATHLON
Fune' finished second in the long jump after posting a leap of 18-1 1/2 for 706 points. Hurley followed in third at 18-1 (703). 

Sofia Bailey moved to a tie for fourth with UC Irvine's Jazzmine Davis on her last jump, 17-10 1/4), as both scored 683 points. Alli Bryan was 13th (15-5 1/2, 482). 

To finish fourth, Hurley recorded a new career-best in the javelin, 118-0 (590 points).  Fune' posted a toss of 94-8 for ninth (455 points). Bailey was 11th (91-0, 434), with Bryan coming in 15th (80-0, 371). UC Irvine's Jolie Robinson took the lead in the javelin after throwing 129-2 (656 points).

Going into the final event, the 800m, Robinson led Hurley by 16 and Fune' by 38. Robinson secured the title, running 2:24.10 (769 points) to finish seventh. Despite running a career-best, Hurley was eighth at 2:27.16 (729 points). Fune' also ran a career-best, 2:30.51, but she placed ninth (686 points). 

Bailey turned in the top LBSU performance in the 800m as she ran a career-best 2:20.56 to finish third (816 points). Bryan came in 15th (2:36.74, 611).

Robinson edged Hurley by 56 points (5220-5164). Hurley's score is the fifth most in school history. Fune' scored 5,099 points. Bailey ended in seventh with 4,917 points. Bryan placed 15th (4,100). 

DECATHLON
In the opening 110m hurdles, Justice Fair ran a season-best 14.89 to finish third and record 863 points. Milo Orona scored 691 points after running a time of 16.38.

In the discus, Orona placed second with a toss of 128-5, scoring 647 points. Fair's 117-4 earned sixth place and 579 points. 

Orona placed sixth in the pole vault, clearing 13-9 ¾ (676 points). Fair cleared 13-5 3/4 in the pole vault to place seventh and score 648 points. 

Orona posted a career-best 181-2 in the javelin for 666 points and a second-place showing in the event. Fair was seventh, throwing 144-5 (501 points). 

Orona ran 4:58.29 in the final event of the competition, the 1500m, to score 570 points and place fourth. Fair did not finish the race. 

Orona scored 6,971 points to finish fifth. Despite not scoring in the 1500m, Fair was sixth with 6,124 points. 

UC Irvine's Josh Farmer won the decathlon, scoring 7,566 points. 

UP NEXT
The Big West Championships are set for next Friday and Saturday in San Luis Obispo. The Long Beach State will look to three-peat as the Beach begins the second part of the meet in first place with 16 points thanks to the three heptathlon scorers.
 
The LBSU begins week two with seven points after Orona and Fair's performances and sits third. UC Irvine leads the team race with 16 points. ESPN+ streams both days of the meet.
