Five Long Beach State Players Earn All-Big West Honors

Martina Cardona, Elisa Portillo, and Mariah Walker received their second honor in their career at the Beach.
LONG BEACH, Calif.- The Big West Conference announced the 2024 all-conference teams on Friday and five athletes earned selections for Long Beach State. Lara Luka was named to All-Big West second team and Elisa Portillo earned second team honors. Martina Cardona and Mariah Walker were named Honorable mention and Chiara Amoroso received All-Freshman team honors.Â
Luka had an impressive senior season for the Beach and earned first team honors for the first time in her career. In her senior campaign, she set two new program records that stood for 20 years with 88 goals and 54 assists, leading the team in both categories this season. She led the Big West in total points with 142 and was second in both goals and assists. She played in all 31 games this season and won a conference-high 41 sprints and added 35 steals, second on the team. This is Luka's third All-Big West honor in her career and first with the Beach.Â
Portillo earned her second consecutive All-Big West honors and was named second team after an outstanding season. Portillo was a threat from both sides of the pool. Offensively, she was second on the team with 55 goals and 30 assists. She led the Beach defense and finished top five in the Big West with 37 steals. During her sophomore season, she became the 23rd player to hit 100 career goals with the Beach.Â
Cardona earned her second Honorable Mention honors after scoring 44 goals and 24 assists which was third most on the team. She was a key player for the Beach and finished with the second best sprint percentage (.794) winning 34 total victories, third in the Big West. Cardona also contributed 22 steals for the Beach.Â
Walker earned a Honorable Mention selection for the second time in her career with the Beach. The senior played in all 31 games and led Long Beach State with 43 drawn exclusions. Walker had a great year offensively as she set her career-high with six goals to open the season and finished fourth on the team with 43 goals with a .500 shooting percentage.Â
Amoroso earned All-Freshman team honors after a strong debut season for the Beach. She scored 25 goals this season with a shooting percentage of .463 and added 12 steals. She set a career-high three goals at the Michigan Invite against Saint Francis.Â
