Leovao tied the LBSU NCAA Championship record score in the first round.
CARLSBAD, Calif. – Sophomore Jasmine Leovao commenced her time at the NCAA Championship, becoming the first golfer since 2007 to compete and just the third individual to represent the team in school history after completing the first round on Friday afternoon.
Leovao shot 73 on the first day, a one-over par round that tied with Kay Hoey in 2005 for the lowest round in LBSU history at the NCAA finals as the pair continue as the only two women's golfers from the Beach to advance to the NCAA Championship.
Getting off to a solid start on the day, Leovao made seven straight pars before a birdie on the Par 3 8th to finish the front nine at one-under par. Still one under through 14, Leovao ran into a little trouble on 15 and 16 but recovered with a third birdie on the day on the Par 5 18th to close the first day with a 73.
That score ended the day tied for 58th overall out of the 156 golfers competing in the championships, and was just two strokes out of a tie for 18th place, firmly in the thick of competition after the first day of action from Carlsbad.
As an individual, Leovao will play as part of the afternoon wave for Saturday's second round, beginning her day at 2:12 p.m. from Omni La Costa Resort. Live coverage will continue to be available through Golfstat at https://results.golfstat.com/public/leaderboards/gsnav.cfm?pg=player&tid=29186.
