LONG BEACH, Calif.- The dynamic duo of Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah for Long Beach State has added to their accomplishments by being named First Team All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The honor sets the sophomore pair among a short list of elite players for Long Beach State Beach Volleyball.
With their First Team selection, Gementera and Hagenah become the fifth and sixth individuals to earn All-America honors for Long Beach State, and are the third pair to receive first team honors, a distinction previously only earned by Caitlin Ledoux/Tara Roenicke and Nele Barber/Rachel Nieto.Â
Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah have been an inseparable pair since their freshman year. They were named Co-Freshman of the Year for the Big West Conference and have continued to add to their impressive career statistics. They were once again named to the All-Big West First Team with a 4-1 record at the conference championship.Â
The duo took down top pairs from No. 5 Cal Poly, No. 6 TCU and No. 10 LMU over the past few weeks. Earlier in the season, they were also able to take on All American players at the top flight from No. 11 Arizona State and No. 15 Georgia State to earn The Beach an undefeated season at home.
This season they sport an overall 27-10 record which has boosted them to 61 wins overall. They are currently tied for the most pairs wins in Long Beach State history, a record that has not been touched since it was set in 2014. They also own the records for most pairs and individual wins in a single season.
Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah will once again be in the top spot for Long Beach State during the NCAA Tournament.
