Peppi Ramstedt earns Long Beach State’s lone point of the match with a solid win at flight four
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Tennis team had a quick turnaround as they faced Big West foe UC Santa Barbara Saturday at the Arnhold Tennis Center and dropped a tough 6-1 decision to the Gauchos.
The loss snapped a five-match winning streak for the Beach (11-6, 5-2 Big West), while the Gauchos (8-7, 3-0 Big West) have now won their third-straight contest.
In doubles action, Justina Dondonay and Doga Akyruek fell, 6-2, to Lucy Lu and Camille Kiss at flight two, before Rhona Cook and Peppi Ramstedt came up short, 6-2, to Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter at the top flight.
The Gauchos jumped in front of the Beach, 3-0, after LBSU dropped flights two and one in singles action to UC Santa Barbara.
Junior Peppi Ramstedt gave the Beach their lone point of the contest as she defeated Reuter, 6-1, 6-4 at flight four. Ramstedt's win made it a 3-1 match, but that was as close as the Beach would get. The Gauchos would go on to claim flights five, three, and six on their way to handing Long Beach State just its second loss in conference play.
Long Beach State looks to bounce back when it takes on CSUN on Friday, April 12 at 1 p.m. at the Matador Tennis Complex in Northridge.
