The Tritons' Brock Kleszcz Hits Two Home Runs
LONG BEACH, Calif.—Brock Kleszcz hit two two-run home runs to power UC San Diego to a 5-1 victory over Long Beach State in Big West baseball action Friday night at Bohl Diamond at Blair Field.
Kleszcz's two-run home run with one out in the top of the second broke the seal for the Tritons.
After issuing a pair of walks in the bottom of the first, UCSD starter Anthony Eyanson retired 11 in a row before hitting Justin Roulston with a pitch with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Roulston advanced to second on a wild pitch. He would be stranded in scoring position as Eyanson struck out the next two Long Beach State batters to get out of the inning.
Kyle Ashworth's opposite-field single to left to open the bottom of the sixth was the first hit Eyanson allowed. Ashworth stole second and advanced on an Adrian Lopez fly ball to left. John Newman Jr. walked to give the Dirtbags runners on the corners. The Dirtbags went for a double steal, with both runners reaching safely for a 2-1 score. Jack Hammond grounded out to third to end the inning.
Kleszcz hit his second two-run home run of the game in the seventh as the Tritons batted around. Noah Sudyka's RBI single made it 5-1. Nathen Morris, the third LBSU pitcher of the inning, struck out Emiliano Gonzalez with the bases loaded for the third out. Hammond's one-out single in the bottom of the ninth was the only other Dirtbags' hit.
Eyanson allowed one hit in 6.1 innings pitched. He struck out eight and walked three. He gave way to Izaak Martinez with one out in the seventh. Martinez struck out three and walked one in the final 2.2 innings. Long Beach State starter Myles Patton struck out nine and walked two in 6.2 innings. Patton took the loss, falling to 3-3 on the year. Four Dirtbags pitchers struck out 12 Tritons.
