The Beach sits in second place in the 21-team field with one round to play Thursday.
MARICOPA, Ariz. – An outstanding first two rounds saw Long Beach State within striking distance of a third team championship this year, sitting in second place among the 21-team field at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic.
Sophomore Janae Leovao finished the first day in the top five of the 118 golfer field, carding two under-par rounds of 70 and 71 to close the day 3-under par at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. Her twin sister Jasmine Leovao had the team's lowest round of the day, a first-round 69 and closed the day just outside of the top 10, placed in a tie for 11th at even par following the first two rounds.
Freshman Andee Avery put up back-to-back rounds of 73 to place in 21st overall and sit third amongst the Beach players. Sophomore Madison Le was the team's fourth counting score in the first round with a 75 before a second-round 74, while Angelina Kim shot a one-over par 73 in the second round as all five LBSU golfers sat well within the top half of the field after two rounds.
As a team, Long Beach State closed the first of two days of competition nine strokes behind tournament leaders Sacramento State in second place. The Beach sits five strokes ahead of Boise State who boasted tournament co-leader Leia Ching in third place and were well in front of their fellow Big West competition in Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside, CSUN and Cal State Bakersfield in the event.
The final round is scheduled to tee off Thursday morning starting at 7:30 a.m. Follow the scoring live at
