Rebekah Durazo had both RBI in a 2-1 win over the Matadors.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior Rebekah Durazo had a home run and a double as Long Beach State rallied once again at home, coming from behind with in a 2-1 win over CSUN Tuesday to win the series against the Matadors.
Long Beach State (12-23, 7-2 Big West) got another strong start from senior Sophia Fernandez, who scattered four hits and struck out five while allowing one run to grab her fourth win of conference play.
Fernandez worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning and was solid the rest of the way, setting down CSUN (17-15, 1-8 Big West) in order in both the second and third innings. Isaballa Alonso also had a nice start in the circle for the Matadors, and neither team had scored through four innings.
CSUN took their first lead on a solo home run from Jerzie Liana in the top of the fifth, but the Beach answered back with a solo home run of their own, the second of the season from Durazo to even the score at 1-1.
A double play got the Beach quickly out of the sixth, and Fernandez set down the bottom of the CSUN order to give Long Beach State a chance for more home heroics. Sara Olson started off the inning with a single, and after moving to second on a groundout, Durazo came to the plate. A double into the gap for the junior easily scored Olson and gave the Beach their sixth walkoff win in the LBSU Softball Complex this season.
Long Beach State will have a quick turnaround to continue Big West play this coming Friday on the road at UC San Diego. The series will then continue with a doubleheader on Saturday, with all three games broadcast live on ESPN+.
