LONG BEACH, Calif. — Long Beach State will finish off the regular season this Saturday facing the Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the LBSU Sand Courts on campus.
Coached by former Long Beach State Women's Volleyball player Alexis Crimes, Cal State Los Angeles (2-8) will play the Beach twice on Saturday. In between the matches, Long Beach State will recognize their senior class of two, Christine Deroos and Emily Sparks. Sparks transferred to the Beach this year and has been a solid player at the fourth and fifth flight. Deroos has been with the Beach since 2020 and in her time here, has racked up 50 wins for the Beach. This season she has been dominant at the fourth flight and has 22 wins so far this season.
Long Beach State (23-7) enters the week ranked No. 7 in the country and has remained undefeated at home, taking down ranked opponents, the biggest of them being a 3-2 win over No. 6 LMU. The Beach once again defeated LMU 3-2 at the Center of Effort Challenge this past weekend. The first flight pair of Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah were the ones to seal the deal for the Beach the first time they played the Lions this season. This time around Hagenah and Gementera were the ones to grab the first dual point with their straight set win over their opponents. Savannah Standage and Julia Westby were the pair to grab the win for the Beach with a three-set thriller at the second flight.
The Beach is currently 23-7 as they head into their final weekend of games before hosting the Big West Conference Championships on April 25 and 26 at the LBCC Sand Courts.
