Ten Long Beach State Basketball Student-Athletes Earn Winter Academic All-Big West Honors

Five players each from the men’s and women’s programs met academic and participation standards.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Ten players from Long Beach State's basketball programs were recognized by the Big West Tuesday with representation as 2023-24 Winter Academic All-Conference honorees.

                In order to qualify for the Academic All-Conference honor, a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.00 cumulative institutional grade point average (GPA), must have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received, and must have competed in at least 50 percent of the institution's contests in the student-athlete's respective sport.

                Across the 11 member institution of the Big West, only three student-athletes had a perfect 4.0 GPA and the Beach boasted two of them in Sydney Woodley from women's basketball and the only 4.0 on the men's side, graduate student Jeffrey Yan.

                In addition to Woodley, other honorees for women's basketball included Patricia Chung, Olivia Moore, Casey Valenti Paea and Savannah Tucker. On the men's side, AJ George, Chayce Polynice, Aboubacar Traore and Lassina Traore were recognized along with Yan.

                Long Beach State's ten representatives were the second-most among the 11 member schools, trailing only UC San Diego's 11.
