LAS VEGAS – Long Beach State's Jasmine Leovao had another fantastic day, extending her lead at the front of the Big West Women's Golf Championship with a four-under par 68 Monday as LBSU extended their team lead as well through 36 of 54 holes at Spanish Trail Country Club.
Leovao had just one bogey on the day and closed with two birdies in the final five holes on the way to a 68, the lowest score of the tournament field through two days. Twin sister Janae shot a 72 to also close the day in the podium places in third place overall, one stroke behind Cal Poly's Kaylee Sakoda on the individual leaderboard. At 6-under, Jasmine remains the only golfer under par at the Big West Championships, while Janae at +1 is one stroke back of Sakoda's even 144.
The efforts of the twins highlighted a strong day for the Beach overall, who extended their team lead to 10 strokes in front of Cal Poly and 19 in front of third place UC Davis. Freshman Andee Avery climbed to 13th overall with a one-over 73 on Monday, while senior Angelina Kim also shot 73 with a birdie on 18 to close out her day. Sophomore Madison Le was the team's drop score Monday, but still sits in the Top 15 on the individual leaderboard.
All five golfers for the Beach are in the top half of the field, and the Beach will look to hold off the Mustangs on Tuesday as the two programs have combined to win the last six Big West championships. At stake for the Beach is the team's fourth Big West title and the team's fifth appearance in the NCAA postseason.
