Jasmine Leovao, Long Beach State Women’s Golf Both In First After Opening Day Of Big West Championship

Long Beach State has three golfers in the Top 10 after the first round.
LAS VEGAS – Sophomore Jasmine Leovao leads the field as the only individual to finish under par on the opening day of action from the Big West Championship, leading the way for Long Beach State who hold a three-stroke lead as a team after the first of three rounds.
The defending individual medalist, Jasmine Leovao got off to a great start to defending her title, leading from the front with a two-under par 70, making just one bogey on the day and closing her round with a birdie on 18 to push her lead individual lead to two strokes in front of Maleyna Gregorio of UC Riverside, who shot an even par 72 at Spanish Trail Country Club.
Twin sister of Jasmine, Janae Leovao also had a strong day on Sunday to close out the day in a tie for third place overall, one over par at 73. Sophomore Madison Le was one stroke behind that with a 74 to also finish in the Top 10 after the first 18 holes in a tie for seventh place. Freshman Andee Avery opened the championship with a 79, while senior Angelina Kim had the team's drop score of 81.
As a team, Long Beach State was eight-over on the day, finishing three strokes in front of Cal Poly and eight strokes in front of UC Davis, the top-seeded group on the day. Those three will play together once again on the second of three days on Monday.
