Beach Volleyball Grabs Two Wins On Final Day of Center Of Effort Challenge

Long Beach State sweeps Pepperdine and wins a 3-2 battle over No. 10 LMU.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — No. 7 Long Beach State closed out the Center of Effort Challenge with two wins, cruising past Pepperdine 5-0 before finishing the event with a thrilling 3-2 win over No. 10 Loyola Marymount.
Long Beach State (23-7) started the day with a straight-set sweep over Pepperdine (15-12). The second flight pair of Savannah Standage and Julia Westby held their opponents to 12 points in each set, with a kill from Standage to finish the game. The fourth flight pair of Kate Stoughton and Christine Deroos played a dominant game to take the dual for the Beach. The sweep was sealed by the fifth flight pair of Haley Carrington and Livi Narancich. They played two back and forth sets but stayed in control of both for the victory.
The Beach started strong with a dominant performance at the first flight. Taylor Hagenah and Malia Gementera had complete control of their game as they took the first dual point. The second dual point went to the Lions (22-11) to tie it up at 1-1. Long Beach State answered back at the third flight, as Natalie Glenn and Megan Widener took their game in straight sets. The fifth flight pair had battled back after dropping the first set to take the second set. The opponents held onto a lead and once again the dual was tied. The second flight duo of Savannah Standage and Julia Westby had three back and forth sets. They were able to go on a run in the third set to win the dual for Long Beach State.
The Beach will be back in action on campus at the LBSU Sand Courts on Saturday, April 20 against Cal State Los Angeles. The team will be recognizing their seniors with a ceremony in between two matches against the Golden Eagles.
