Long Beach State Wins Four Times At The PCI

17 Meet Records Fall During The Competition
LONG BEACH, Calif.—Long Beach State won four times Thursday as the Beach hosted the Pacific Coast Invitational at Jack Rose Track.
MEN
Omri Shiff broke the PCI record in the 400m hurdles to win the event. His time of 51.27 broke the 2023 mark of Marquette's Mitchell Van Vooren.
Mario Tavares won the 1500 meters, clocking a personal best of 3:53.58. Teammate Jay Brown was the runner-up, running a new personal best of 3:54.86. Quinn Garity placed fourth with a season-best 3:56.39. Cameron Gill turned in an eighth-place showing, running a season-best 3:57.93.
Cristian Martinez and Connor Phillips led a 1-2 Beach finish in the 800m for the Beach. Martinez won the race in a season-best time of 1:51.32. Phillips ran his first 800m since the 2022 season and went 1:41.49.
Kyle Jankans tied with Hilldale's Cass Dobrowolski for first in the high jump as both cleared 6-9.
Elijah Harris tied for fourth with Kansas City's Nahshon Houston and Louisville's Jeremiah Willis in the long jump as the trio all posted a 24-6 1/4 mark.
Mekhi Mays, Naythn Scruggs, Malik Harness, and Tristyn Flores charted the season-best time for a Long Beach State 4x100m relay: 40.41. The squad finished fourth overall and was one of six teams to break the previous PCI record in the event. Minnesota State's 4x100m relay was the winner, running the fourth fastest time in NCAA Division II this season: 40.04.
WOMEN
A strong 1500-meter run was in store for the Beach, as all three entries achieved personal bests. Leia Jones finished third, running 4:37.05. Marikay Schwab followed, placing fourth with a new personal record of 4:37.53. Alyssa Tapanes came in seventh at 4:42.00, her season best.
Hailey Fune' lowered her career best in the 100m hurdles to 13.52 to finish sixth in the field of 84. She moved into a tie for the third quickest time in school history in the event with Shakina Phillips (2012) and Riley Cooks (2017).
Fune' and Tayah DeSousa moved into a tie for ninth with Phylicia Johnson (2011) in school history in the long jump as the duo both posted a leap of 19-8 3/4. The Fune' and DeSousa tied for ninth in the event.
Mackenzie Hack placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. (12:05.39).
Kendall Harrison recorded a season-best in the 800m, securing eighth place (2:15.03).
Charlotte O'Connor moved into a tie for ninth in school history with Jodi Lambert (2016) in the pole vault with a leap of 12-10. She finished in a tie for ninth overall in the field of 55.
