MIKE FANELLI TRACK CLASSIC RESULTS

LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Long Beach State men's and women's track and field teams opened competition at the Stanford Invitational and the Mike Fanelli Classic on Friday
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS AT STANFORD
Annie Murphy tied for first in the collegiate pole vault with Stanford's Lianne Kistler. The duo both cleared 12-5 1/4.
 
Natasha Tehrani cleared 11-11 1/4 in the collegiate pole vault to place seventh in the event.
 
Jenelle Hurley finished eighth in the collegiate long jump after going a season-best 18-4 1/4.
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS AT STANFORD
Elijah Harris was the runner-up in the invitational long jump with a leap of 24-2 1/2. He finished second to former Long Beach State All-American Jason Smith. Smith, the LBSU record holder in the long jump, won the event after going 25-8 1/4.
 
Kyle Jankans tied for sixth in the high jump (high pit) with Washington State's AJ McGloflin, going 6-6.
 
Alex Kalmar finished ninth in a field of 42 1500m runners at 3:51.05.
 
Novye' James tied for eighth in the collegiate long jump after posting a 22-5 performance. 
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS AT THE MIKE FANELLI CLASSIC
Kyle Reden, Jay Brown, and Cameron Rhone competed in the 1500m. The field consisted of 17 heats and 223 entries. The Beach fared well as Rhone finished eighth (3:54.16), Brown placed 15th (3:55.26), and Reden was 49th (4:00.27). 
 
Quinn Garity and Mario Tavares ran the 5000m. Like the 1500m, it was a crowded field, with nine heats and 20-26 runners in each race. The field totaled 185 racers.
 
Tavares registered his best time in the 5000m, 14:34.84, to finish 34th. Garity went 14:41.53 to place 46th.
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS AT THE MIKE FANELLI CLASSIC
Maddie Franco ran a season-best 4:43.88 in the 1500m. The event consisted of 17 heats and 183 entries. Franco finished 41st overall.
 
Allie Scimia and Marikay Schwab saw action in the 5000m. The women's 5000m consisted of seven heats, with 28-32 runners in each race. The race featured 157 competitors. Schwab ran 17:42.57 in her first 5000m race for the Beach (finishing 70th). Scimia charted a time of 17:49.54 (77th).
 
On Saturday, Long Beach State continues action at the Stanford Invitational and the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. FloTrack will stream both meets for a fee.
