No. 7 Beach Volleyball Grabs Two Sweeps The First Day Of The Big West Challenge

Long Beach State swept CSU Bakersfield and host, Sacramento State, on the first day of play.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Long Beach State won a pair of 5-0 duals against CSU Bakersfield and Sacramento State to start the Big West Challenge.
The Beach (16-2) started the tournament with a sweep of CSU Bakersfield (10-8). The duo of Savannah Standage and Julia Westby played a dominant game to hold their opponents under ten points each set. The fourth flight pair continued their undefeated streak even after a tough second set with the Runners. The first flight pair of Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah also had a close second set that ended up in a win for the Beach. The fifth flight pair was the only court to go to a third set. Emily Sparks and Haley Carrington were neck and neck with their opponents the whole time. Carrington got a tool off the block to win the third set and complete the sweep for the Beach.
The game against Sacramento State (5-11) saw another close match at the fifth flight. The fourth flight was the first to finish as they breezed through their game. The second flight of Julia Westby and Natalie Glenn took some time to warm up but ended up gaining momentum to take their game in straight sets. The first and third flight duos were quick games as both beat their opponents in straight sets to put the Beach up 4-0 in the dual. The fifth flight duo of Jaylen Jordan and Gabby Reinking played a great first set but dropped their second set. They came back to win a dominant third set 15-6 to give Long Beach the sweep in their second match of the day.
No. 7 Beach Volleyball will continue to play in the Big West Challenge tomorrow as they take on CSUN at 9 a.m. and No. 12 Hawaii at 1 p.m.
