Long Beach Tennis Earns A 4-1 Victory Over Saint Mary’s

Rhona Cook and Peppi Ramstedt lead the Beach to the win
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Women's Tennis team came out strong as they battled Saint Mary's in a 4-1 win at Rhodes Tennis Center on Friday.
Peppi Ramstedt played a crucial role in the Beach's (7-5) win over the Gaels (6-3) as the senior clinched the match for Long Beach State with a win at flight three in singles action.
Saint Mary's started the match winning at flight two in doubles competition as Tian Yu Dong and Juliette Daries defeated Doga Akyruek and Hana Becirovic Novak, 6-2.
Ramstedt and partner Rhona Cook battled Iman Khan and Olivia Rook at flight one and came away with a 6-4 win to set up flight three as the point clincher.
At flight three, Paulina Franco Martinessi and Mathilde Tranberg faced Stefanie Silva and Sofia Daryaie. The Beach pair did an excellent job gutting out a 7-5 victory to clinch the doubles point and send Long Beach State into singles competition up 1-0 with the momentum on the Beach's side.
The Gaels were quick to even the score at 1-1 as Daryaire downed Franco Martinessi at flight six by a score of 6-4, 6-2.
Justine Dondonay went head-to-head with Mia Angelina Ruja at flight two and gave the Beach back their lead after winning 6-2, 6-3.
Leading 2-1, Cook battled Khan at the top flight and earned a hard-fought victory, 7-5, 6-4, to position Long Beach State for the win.
At court three, Ramstedt had earned a 6-2 set one win over Silva and the two were in a tight second set. Ramstedt remained focused and collected a 7-5 win to clinch the match for LBSU.
The Beach will be back in action Thursday, March 21 at 2 p.m. when they host Dartmouth at Rhodes Tennis Center. Live scoring will be available via BeachLiveStats.com.
