Kim shot a final round 68 as Long Beach State moved up to a tie for sixth-place overall with one of the lowest team scores of the day.
MILLBRAE, Calif. – Senior Angelina Kim had the lowest round of the day in the 59-golfer field, shooting a four-under par 68 at the Silicon Valley Showcase to highlight a strong final day for Long Beach State.
Kim had the lowest score of the day by two strokes, finishing off the best tournament of the year for the senior. Already the best-placed on the leaderboard for Long Beach State, her final round pushed Kim into the Top 10 of the tournament featuring a number of top teams including Pepperdine and UCLA, who finished first and second at the Silicon Valley Showcase.
Sophomore Janae Leovao closed the tournament with a final round 78 to share in a tie for 23rd, while freshman Andee Avery shot an 80 to close her tournament. True freshman closed out her first tournament as part of the Beach lineup with an 80 as well, one of the team's counting scores again in a promising beginning to her competitive career.
Madison Le, competing as an individual, returned to the course Tuesday after a second round retirement with an 80, while Kristina Ponomareva did not complete the final round and was forced to withdraw.
As a team, the Beach climbed three spots after starting the day in ninth overall to share sixth place overall with UC Davis.
Long Beach State will have a quick turnaround, as their next tournament begins on Sunday, March 17 as the team takes part in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, hosted by Hawai'i at the Ocean Course Hokuala on the island of Kaua'i.
