Denness-Lamont Breaks Women’s Javelin Record To Begin Beach Opener

Long Beach State Wins Both Women’s Throwing Events
Day 1 Results
LONG BEACH, Calif.—A school record and a pair of wins highlighted day one of the Beach Opener for Long Beach State Friday afternoon at Jack Rose Track.
WOMEN
Rori Denness-Lamont began the year by resetting the school record in the javelin with a toss of 172-7. She won the event, breaking the 2010 mark of Randi Hicks (170-11).
Giszelle Hrehor won the hammer throw by posting the sixth longest mark in school history, 189-9. Keeley Rasmussen finished fifth with a toss of 170-10.
MEN
Nikolaj Freschlin made his javelin debut with a second-place finish. The Rhode Island transfer posted the sixth longest throw in school history, 219-9. Conrad Bernstein placed fifth (200-4) in the javelin with Milo Orona coming in seventh (178-11).
In the hammer throw, Pablo Gamez led the Beach contingent as he finished fifth (182-1). Canaan Wharry was eighth (178-1) while Micah Norfles finished ninth (182-1).
The Beach Opener concludes Saturday. The track events begin at 9:35 a.m. with the men's 5000m. The field events get underway at 10 a.m. with the women's discus, men's pole vault, men's long jump, and women's long jump.
