Long Beach State will face the two top ranked teams this weekend.
LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Beach will take on the two top ranked teams in the nation on Friday and Saturday along with other opponents.
No. 9 Beach Volleyball will be at Merle Norman Stadium on Friday where they will take on the host, No. 2 USC at 10 a.m. and Concordia at 2 p.m. The next day they will play at Mapes Beach taking on No. 1 UCLA at noon and Washington at 2 p.m.
The team moves up to No. 9 in the rankings after two sweeps to open the season. The match against Vanguard showcased talent across the board as each pair took their opponents in straight sets. The dual saw the flights of two, four and five keep their opponents below ten points in each set.
Many familiar faces for the Beach helped earn the win over Pepperdine on their home courts for the first time in program history. The pair of Christine Deroos and Megan Widener earned the first dual point as the pair went undefeated for the weekend. Julia Westby and Savannah Standage had a much closer battle at the second court as they were the only team to play a third set that day. The duo fought hard for a slight advantage to beat Pepperdine 16-14 in the third set. The dual sealing victory came from Carrington and Narancich, who played hard to keep the lead over Pepperdine during both sets.
