The duo of Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook won the Doubles title with a 6-3 victory
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Senior Rhona Cook and junior Peppi Ramstedt led Long Beach State as the pair captured the Doubles Crown on Sunday at the Beach Tennis Winter Invite.
As a team, Long Beach State won 3-of-4 doubles matches and four singles contests. The Beach claimed the doubles title after Cook and Ramstedt took down the duo of Amahee Charrier and Anastasia Luneva from Nevada by a score of 6-2.
The win came after Sunday's matches had been delayed after heavy rains the night before soaked the courts. Cook and Ramstedt battled it out and won the hard-fought contest, despite the elements working against them.
Also picking up doubles wins for Long Beach State were Mathilde Tranberg and Paulina Franco Martinessi. The pair handed Nevada's duo of Lou Anne Guerbert and Kennedy Robinson a 6-2 loss.
Meanwhile Justine Dondonay and Sarah Medik teamed up to face Nevada's Mia Miranda and Gabriella Charlampidi. The contest was a back-and-forth affair that saw the Beach edge the WolfPack, 7-5, for the victory.
In singles action, Cook and Klara Kosan of the University of Pacific, went head-to-head for the singles title. Kosan, however, would come out victorious in that match, as Cook fell 6-3, 6-4, en route to Kosan winning the singles tournament.
Despite dropping the singles title match, Long Beach State turned in four other solid performances against Pacific. Ramstedt took down Alexis Sam, 7-5, 6-0, and Medik rolled past Indiya McCleod, 6-0, 6-0.
Franco Martinessi battled out a three-setter against Megan Carmichael. After Carmichael took the first set, 6-3, Franco Martinessi fought back to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-4.
Rounding out the Beach victories on the day was Tranberg as she defeated Elizaveta Mladentseva in a 1-0 retirement.
Long Beach State will open the 2024 dual season on Friday, January 26 when the Beach hosts Fresno Pacific at Rhodes Tennis Center. First serve is set for 10 a.m. Live stats for the matches will be available via BeachLiveStats.com
