Beach Tennis Kicks Off The Season With A Dominant Sweep Over Fresno Pacific

Mathilde Tranberg was incredible as she never dropped a set in singles action
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Beach Women's Tennis team opened the 2024 dual season in a big way on Friday morning at Rhodes Tennis Center. Long Beach State swept Fresno Pacific, 7-0, in a dominant performance led by senior Mathilde Tranberg who never dropped a set in singles competition.
The Beach (1-0) started off strong rolling through doubles action. Playing at Flight 3, the pair of Paulina Franco Martinessi and Tranberg downed FPU's (0-1) Halle Faherty and Malia Mitchell, 6-1. Doga Akyurek and Hana Becirovic Novak followed suit with a 5-2 victory over Elise Leik and Audrey Ouellet. Rounding out doubles action, Rhona Cook and Peppi Ramstedt played Nayuma Subba and Yume Ueoku in Flight 1 and came away with a 6-3 victory.
After winning the doubles point, Long Beach State brought its momentum into singles action as Ramstedt took down Leik in Flight 3 by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Tranberg was perfect in the fifth flight as she captured a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Faherty to put Long Beach up 3-0.
LBSU clinched the match, 4-0, on court 6 as Franco Martinessi handed Margarita Munoz a 6-1, 6-2 loss.
Meanwhile, Cook secured a 6-3, 6-0 victory at court 1, while Akyurek earned a hard-fought 6-2, 6-3 victory at Flight 2 against the Sunbirds' Ueoku.
Completing the sweep for the Beach was Sarah Medik who faced Ouellet in the fourth flight. Medik came out on top 6-2, 6-2 after an exciting battle.
Long Beach State will face Big West opponent UC Riverside on Friday, February 2 at 1 p.m. at the SRC Tennis Courts.
